In an interview to Russian news agency, Indian ambassador to
Moscow Pankaj Saran said, “We have conveyed our views to the Russian side that
military cooperation with Pakistan is a wrong approach and it will only create
further problems”.
The first ever two-week long exercises between Pakistan and
Russia began on September 24 and continued till 10th of the present month.
Around 70 Russian soldiers and officers along with some 130
Pakistani counterparts took part in the war games called Friendship 2016. The
name is a symbolical reference to the old Cold War tensions between Moscow and
Islamabad, which the two capitals are now trying to overcome.
It is pertinent to mention here that Indian media made a
false claim that Russia has called-off its joint military exercises with
Pakistan in the wake of Uri attack.

The remarks by the Indian diplomat came ahead of a meeting
between Indian PM Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin scheduled for
Saturday in Goa. Putin will arrive in India on October 14.
Saran said: "There are some burning issues before the
world today, which the BRICS countries will certainly address. This includes
the question of terrorism and the threat of terrorism faced by all the
countries in the BRICS group. So this will be a major item of discussion during
the summit, apart from the regional conflicts and the global situation."
Putin will attend the Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa
(BRICS) summit in Goa on October 16.
