United also maintained their winning streak as they beat Sunderland at Old
Trafford.
Arsenal,
meanwhile, needed a late goal from Olivier Giroud to see off West Brom.
There has been a degree of
incredulity at Manchester United in recent days at the attempts by David Moyes
and his supporters to apply some revisionism to his calamitous 10-month reign
at Old Trafford. Moyes desperately wanted to win on his first return to Old
Trafford since his tenure was cut unceremoniously short in April 2014, but as
well as his Sunderland side equipped themselves in the first half, they were
eventually cut down to size by a United team who look more upwardly mobile than
at any point since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.
