LAHORE – A Pakistan Army team won gold in a premier patrolling event of the British Army called Exercise Cambrian Patrol.

This year, the 59 Punjab from 37th Division / 1 Corps represented Pakistan Army in Cambrian Petrol in the United Kingdom 2016 and won a Gold medal.

Exercise Cambrian Patrol is an annual international military patrolling exercise that makes its participating units cover a 50-mile (80 km) course in less than 48 hrs while performing numerous types of military exercises placed throughout the rugged Cambrian Mountains and swamp lands of mid-Wales.

Cambrian Patrol was first set up more than 40 years ago, by a group of Welsh Territorial Army soldiers who designed the training event to feature long distance marching over the Cambrian Mountains culminating in a shooting match on the Sennybridge training area. Since then, the exercise has been rigorously updated to meet the challenges faced by modern soldiers.

“This year, the 59 Punjab from the 37th Division/1 Corps represented the Pakistan Army in Cambrian Patrol in the UK and won a Gold medal.” Pakistan Defence tweeted.

“Top marks again for Pakistan. Year after year they deliver a polished performance. Another hard-earned gold medal,” the British Army in Wales tweeted on its handle.

A team of Pakistan Army won the gold medal in the same event, last year when they outshined around 140 teams from armies across the globe.

The international patrolling exercise, an annual event organised and run by the 160th Infantry Brigade and Headquarters Wales, is both physically and mentally challenging and is a highlight in the British Army’s training calendar.

Internationally, it is regarded as one of the toughest tests the modern-day soldier can face, with some overseas entrants having to claim the right to take part by winning their own domestic competition, Dawn News reported.
